Not to be confused with the boss version of Mutant.

Mutant is an NPC vendor that will spawn once the following conditions are met:

  • There is an empty house.
  • Any boss has been defeated.

When threatened by enemies, it will defend itself depending on the world's progress:

  • If the world is in Pre-Hardmode, it will throw an eyeball.
  • If the world is in Hardmode, it will throw a mechanical eyeball.
  • If Moon Lord has been defeated, it will throw a phantasmal eyeball.
  • If the player has defeated Mutant in combat, it will throw The Penetrator, which leaves behind a trail of homing Phantasmal Spheres.

When the Mutant is submerged in Shimmer he will transform into his shimmered version. He can be returned to his classic look by submerging him in Shimmer again.

Notes

  • Mutant is very useful for farming boss drops, as you can buy most boss summon items once you've defeated that boss at least once.
  • Mutant will not sell the Mutant's Gift if the Fargo's Souls mod is not enabled.

    • Trivia

    • The names "Fargo" and "Wilta" are a reference to the mod creator, Fargowilta.
    • The names "Flacken" and "Dorf" are a reference to Flacken Dorf, a character from a story written by Fargowilta.
    • "Polly" is a name commonly used for parrots, tracing back to the Ben Jonson's comedy Volpone.
    • The quote about impending doom approaching is a reference to the Moon Lord, who's message when summoned says 'Impending doom approaches'.
    • The quote about being all that the Player needs for a calamity may be a reference to the Calamity Mod.
    • The quote about "Apotheosis" is a reference to the weapon of the same name from the Calamity mod, which is dedicated to one of the mod's lead developers.
    • The quote about desert themed bosses is a reference to many other mods, and how their first bosses are desert related.
    • The Blood Moon quote about constant arguing references the effect the event has on the Vanilla female NPCs, who become greatly irritated.
    • The Mutant may be attracted to the Dryad, as he states her outfit makes his wings flutter, a term which may indicate arousal.
