Not to be confused with the town NPC version of Deviantt.

Next up is me! Make sure you can recognize whatever attack I'll throw at you. Blocks and turning away can nullify petrification!

DevianttDeviantt

Deviantt is a pre-Hardmode boss. It is the final challenge of pre-Hardmode before the player confronts the Wall of Flesh, though it can also be summoned at any point in progression.

Summoning

Deviantt does not spawn on its own and must be summoned by the player by using a Deviantt's Curse. The Deviantt NPC will transform into the boss.

Expert Mode

Upon reaching 50% of its maximum health in Expert Mode, Deviantt will enter its second stage. All of Deviantt's attacks inflict more damage and gain various new mechanics.

Eternity Mode

Deviantt performs one strong attack in between every three weak attacks. Strong attacks additionally summon an arena that prevents escape. Attacks are chosen at random, but cannot be repeated until a cycle has passed. In stage two, Deviantt only does two weak attacks between each strong attack.

Masochist Mode

Deviantt heals to full health upon entering her second stage. All energy hearts now have slight variations in their angles, making them harder to dodge and no longer parallel.

Attacks

Deviantt attacks the player with moves reminiscent of various Eternity Mode enemies. All of Deviantt's attacks inflict a wide variety of debuffs, some taken from the original enemies and others reduced or changed. Contact and "original" attacks inflict Lovestruck instead.

Weak Attacks

Attack Phase 1 Phase 2
Hammers Teleports around the player a random number of times and then fires a spray of boomerang-like Paladin hammers.

Nymph hearts Fires three barrages of hearts in the same manner as a Nymph.
Fires more hearts in circular barrages, hearts deal more damage.
Additionally fires a second set of hearts with each barrage.

Light orbs explode into lasers sooner
Each ring is made of overlapping spirals.
The concentric rings of light orbs are tighter.
Mimics Summons and rains down a barrage of Mimics consisting of several sequential Mimics followed by a row of them.

Fires more Biome Mimics and the final row of Biome Mimics is much wider.
Ice and Sand Circles the player while shooting frostfireballs.
Circles around the player faster and more erratically while firing frostfireballs.
Additionally creates ancient storms in the direction the player is moving.
Ancient storms have predictive targeting.
Rune Wizard Teleports around the player and shoots bursts of rune blasts while surrounded by a double aura that inflicts Hexed, Crippled, and Dazed.
Teleports in a larger area around the player.
Additionally fires rings of five circling rune blasts.
Fires 8 rune blasts instead of 5.
Dashes Raises a monstrous axe and charges directly at the player five times, swinging the axe while emanating moth dust. Exploding hearts are thrown every second swing.
Each axe charge throws out numerous energy hearts.
Charges are performed more rapidly and throw more hearts.
Swings faster.
Shadowbeams Fires a successive barrage of shadowbeams, inferno blasts, and then a ring of lost souls; the initial shadowbeams are telegraphed by a purple aiming laser.
Fires bursts of meteor shots with each shadowbeam, triplet spreads of rockets with each inferno blast,
and teleports nearby before shooting a high-velocity crystal bullet at the player that inflicts Defenseless for an extended period before firing the ring of lost souls.
Attacks more rapidly and fires a denser ring.
Fires faster, same changes as previous phase.
Baby guardians Teleports above the player, glows with fiery energy and then summons an eruption of Baby Guardians along with two rows that sweep in from both sides.

Strong Attacks

Attack Phase 1 Phase 2
Heart barrage Rapidly fires hearts upwards which rain back down in slightly angled, evenly spaced rows. As the hearts are falling, Deviantt will fire two energy hearts to either side of the player every so often.
Fires 3 energy hearts to either side of the player.
The hearts erupt into pillars of more hearts when far enough below the player or striking the floor.
Hearts erupt into vertical lasers when far enough below the player or when hitting the floor.

Moths Summons a swarm of moths that circle overhead while raining down groups of light orbs.
Moths move faster, and Deviantt fires variable spreads of seven lines of rainbow slime spikes upwards for the duration of the attack.
Moths fire light orbs over a much larger area.
Moth light orbs and rainbow slime spikes cover a larger area.
Giant Love Laser Builds energy by flashing three times, and then petrifies all players looking at her; the player will be warned by a particle beam connecting to Deviantt if they are currently looking at them. Continues to charge energy and then fires a colossal beam that inflicts massive damage.
Energy builds up faster and there is much less delay between petrification and the colossal beam firing.
Same as the previous phase but emits additional rings of hearts while charging.
Concentric rings are denser and fired out faster.
Sparkling Love Swing - Summons a monstrous axe and then slams it on the player, spraying ray-shooting energy hearts in every direction that form a dense network of lasers, telegraphed by pink beams. This attack will always be Deviantt's first strong attack of the second phase.
While charging her axe, Deviantt fires four energy hearts close around herself that explode. The axe is larger and explodes into a much denser ring of lasers.

Notes

  • Deviantt heals when hit by a player who is suffering from the Lovestruck debuff.
  • Hearts produced by the Nymph spread and Biome Mimic attacks always deal a flat 20 damage and ignore defense, damage reduction, and invulnerability frames. In Masochist Mode, they deal 30 damage instead.
  • Some attacks pass through the Creepers from the Gutted Heart.
  • Inflicts no contact damage during Baby Guardian and heart rain attacks.
  • The hitbox of Deviantt's axe spawns at full size, even before the axe visually grows. However, the hitbox is much thinner than the sprite and does not cover the blade itself.
  • Certain particle-based attacks can appear invisible on low graphics settings.

Tips

  • Nymph's Perfume grants immunity to Lovestruck, preventing Deviantt from healing through damage taken. It also creates healing hearts while dealing damage, which can provide valuable healing in the midst of the fight.
  • Gutted Heart is significantly less useful, because many of her attacks bypass the Creepers it summons.
  • Accessories reforged to Menacing, The Queen's Stinger, and Agitating Lens can all greatly increase damage output against the boss.
  • An arena with multiple layers of platforms should be used because solid tiles allow Deviantt to hide in them and can obstruct player movement, especially during strong attacks.

Trivia

  • The music that plays during Deviantt's boss battle is Sparkly Strawberry Sunrise by Yuri O.
    • Her old theme was Lexus Cyanixs by Sakuzyo, and before that it was Dance of Deviance by ENNWAY!, then known as Turquoise.
    • If the Fargo's Music Mod add-on is disabled, Hallow (Otherworldly) will play instead.
  • Many of her attacks are inspired by attacks used by the bosses in the game Rabi-Ribi; in particular, most attacks involving hearts or energy hearts are borrowed from the Lilith boss.
  • If Deviantt has been defeated once already, the player can "bribe" her by throwing coins at her. If the player throws enough money, the Deviantt will surrender after a dialogue chain, instantly ending the fight and dropping her loot as normal.
  • If the player has the Boss Checklist Mod installed, her despawn message says: "Deviantt is satisfied with its show of love."
  • If the player has the Yet Another Boss Health Bar Mod installed, her health bar will be colored pink.
  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for Deviantt: "Casts spells of light and love using a living axe made of evil. She must be very lax about death, given she never fights that hard to protect a town"
