“Only a specific type of weapon will work against each specific pillar. As for that moon guy, his weakness will keep changing.
— Deviantt
Eternity Mode Moon Lord is a Hardmode boss. He is a more powerful version of Moon Lord with more attacks and new behavior.
Behavior
Phase 1
Moon lord Passively inflicts Nullification Curse, granting him immunity to all attacks that do not belong to a specific damage type. This weakness changes periodically and is indicated by rings of fragments of their respective class that count down. Vulnerabilities always cycle in the following order: Melee, Ranged, Magic, Summoner, Any repeating after each cycle.
- Produces a Lunar Ritual arena that prevents escape.
- Moves significantly slower.
- Phantasmal Spheres accelerate instead of starting at full speed and cannot damage the player while spawning. Thrown Spheres have a trajectory telegraph. (No telegraph present.)
- Phantasmal Bolts are fired in spreads of 5, accelerate, and have slight homing.
- Phantasmal Eyes' horizontal mobility is massively decreased.
- Removed contact damage from both empty sockets and True Eyes of Cthulhu.
- True Eyes are always synchronized and attack slower until core is exposed. (True Eyes always attack at normal speed and slowly desync over time.)
- Phantasmal Deathrays are significantly larger and faster.
Once all 3 True Eyes have been released, Moon Lord enters phase 2.
Phase 2
- True eyes move at normal speed.
- Moon lord's phases cycle faster as the core passes certain health intervals; Moon Lord's periodic attacks are also affected by this multiplier.
- 2x speed under 75%/82%
- 3x speed under 25%/40%
Attacks
Moon lord's body preforms several attacks independent of those from the base game.
All phase 1 attacks are indicated by a bright flash of light emanating from the moon lord's Head and Hands.
Sub-Phase | Phase 1 | Phase 2 |
---|---|---|
Melee | Periodically fires 180-degree spreads of 5 loosely homing Fireballs from the Head and Hands, directed away from the player. At the start of this subphase, the Head fires an arc of 7 invincible Solar Fragments. |
Periodically throws exploding suns at the player's position, creating chain explosions that move along the horizontal and vertical axes. Suns are thrown from alternating hands. Same changes as previous phase |
Ranged | Periodically summons 6 vortex portals surrounding the player that shoot a beam of lightning directly at them. Summons a defensive vortex that travels in a figure 8 around the core, absorbing ranged projectiles and redirecting them as lightning. |
Summons 2 vortexed above the left and right thirds of the arena, these vortexes rain down lightning restricting movement, lightning spread becomes larger as the Core's health decreases. Same changes as previous phase. |
Magic | Periodically fires 6 Nebula Blaze from its Head and Hands. Creates a purple Gravity Well at the center of the arena, inflicting Distorted when inside. |
Periodically fires a 180-degree spread of 5 nebula blaze from the Head and Hands, directed away from the player, these nebula blaze ricochet of the arena borders for the duration of the attack. Same changes as previous phase. |
Summon | Periodically fires a spread of 3 invulnerable Ancient Lights at the player from the Head and Hands. At the start of this subphase, Head and Hands fire an arch of 5 invulnerable Ancient Lights at the player. |
Periodically fires Phantasmal Deathray IIs from every segment simultaneously, these Deathrays do not move after shot and aim to encircle the player. Same changes as previous phase. |
All | Periodically fires 2 counter spiraling rings of 4 phantasmal spheres. | Summons 2 rings of 4 Moons that orbit the edge of the arena, limiting movement and becoming closer as the Core's health decreases. Periodically fires 2 counter spiraling rings of 8 phantasmal spheres. |

Tips
- It's basically required to bring more than 1 different class setup with you because of the constant immunity changes. Remember to keep an eye on the fragments and tinted foreground to see what the Moon Lord is currently vulnerable to.
- Avoid getting hit by the ancient lights spawned during his stardust state, as the Purified debuff cancels your minions. However, the Bionomic Cluster gives immunity to this debuff.
- Do not use pure heart, or if you do, turn off creepers in the configuration menu, due to that many of Moon Lord's attacks deals splash damage, which the creepers can't prevent well, and will only make the fight harder due to the increased hitbox.
- Gaia armor is a great choice of armor since it buffs all classes. It will also make the fight easier because the player doesn't have to switch armors
Class | Weapon | Pros | Cons |
---|---|---|---|
Melee | Daybreak Starlight Flying Dragon |
High damage Massive damage High damage, long range |
- Needs Tungsten Enchantment to be viable Little area of affect without Tungsten Enchantment |
Ranged | Phantasm | High damage | - |
Magic | Nebula Arcanum | High damage, projectiles can be stacked before nebula phase | - |
Summon | Stardust Cell Staff Terraprisma Dark Harvest & Kaleidoscope |
Does not mess with immunity frames High damage and always attacking Can be used together to deal high damage without summons, can be used with summons. |
Less damage the more there are summoned Difficult to obtain Whip combo may be hard to maintain while dodging |
- Even though multiple whip debuffs and buffs can't be stacked together in Eternity Mode, a debuff and a buff can be stacked together, making the Dark Harvest and Kaleidoscope combo possible.
- Wizard Enchantment can be used with Tungsten Enchantment to increase size further.
- Vortex Beater can be effective if used with Chlorophyte Bullet's
- Kaleidoscope is preferable to use with other minions.
Notes
- Moon Lord drops a Celestially Sigil on spawn if it hasn't been defeated yet.
- Moon Lord is immune to daybroken outside its melee/all vulnerable state, and is immune to Celled.
- Moon Lord can naturally spawn in Space after being defeated once.
- Moon Lord becomes significantly easier after being defeated, because the player now can have immunity to nullification curse and curse of the moon.
- The hitbox of the chain explosion produced by sun when core is exposed and in its solar state is actually larger than it seems.
- Regardless of how far away you are from Moon Lord, the sun attack when core is exposed and in its solar state will always get to your previous position in a set amount of time.
Trivia
- If the Eternity Mode Recolors option is turned on in the Mod Configurations menu, it resembles the original design for Cthulhu prior to being scrapped
- Prior to 1.3.96, it resembled the Sun Lord from the Terraria Fan Ideas Wiki.
