Eternity Mode Eye of Cthulhu is a pre-Hardmode boss. It is a more powerful version of the Eye of Cthulhu with more attacks and new behavior.
Behavior
Eye of Cthulhu's main behavior focuses on dashes and spawning accelerating Moon Sickles.
Phase 1
- Eye of Cthulhu tries to stay above the player while spawning fast Servants of Cthulhu.
- Each dash in a chain is longer and faster than the previous dash.
- Dashes emit a short trail of moon sickles that accelerate in the direction of the Eye's movement.
- Dashes have slight homing.
Under 65% health, Eye of Cthulhu enters phase 2, transforming into a mouth.
Phase 2
- When entering phase 2 the Eye releases 2 radial bursts of 8 moon sickles and spawns many servants. (Spawns more servants as well as 2 accelerating sickle trails in the direction it was moving.)
- In this phase the Eye preforms 3 consecutive dashes with no sickles (similar to normal mode), with each dash in the sequence longer and faster than the last.
Under 50% health, and after finishing the current dash combo, Eye of Cthulhu enters phase 3.
Phase 3
- Starts using expert mode chain dashes.
- Chains together more consecutive dashes, but no longer increases the number of dashes in chains as health decreases.
- It's chain dashes emit an eight-directional spread of sickles where it began each dash.(Chain dashes spawn accelerating sickle trails and 4 servants with every ring of sickles.)
- After finishing a set of chain dashes, the Eye becomes invincible and teleports to either side of the player and preforms a very long loosely homing dash with an accelerating sickle trail, after this attack the Eye becomes vulnerable again and starts a new dash combo.
Under 10% health, Eye of Cthulhu enters phase 4.
Phase 4
- Eye of Cthulhu teleports to one of 4 corners around the player and then release a harmless phantom eye that does an extremely fast set of zigzagging chain dashes.
- The real Eye follows the phantom's path shortly afterward, creating sickle rings and quickly fading trails. These dashes cannot be outrun and can only be dodged by predicting the safe spots between them. Every 3 patterns the Eye will fall to the ground stunned for several seconds to allow the player to damage it.
(Takes less time between patterns, almost immediately follows indicator, sickles accelerate instead of disappearing, and never becomes stunned.)
Debuffs
Source | Debuffs |
---|---|
All Attacks | Curse of the Moon Berserked |
All attacks | Shadowflame Bleeding Obstructed |
Notes
- Eye of Cthulhu drops an Suspicious Looking Eyedrops on spawn if it hasn't been defeated yet.
Tips
- The phase 3 chain dashes can be avoided simply by running in a straight line and occasionally jumping to avoid sickles.
- Every time it teleports in phase 4, the Eye of Cthulhu positions itself so that it will ram the player if they stay still. Conversely, moving slightly is enough for the player to avoid contact damage.
- You could do this by moving slightly towards the Eye of Cthulhu.
- It may be best to focus on dodging and wait for the Eye to become stunned, this does not apply to masochist.
- The Berserked debuff could be used to the player's advantage as it increases their damage and attack speed but decreases their defense. However, it's not recommended to get hit intentionally due to the other debuffs the boss applies.
Trivia
- If the Eternity Mode Recolors option is turned on in the Mod Configurations menu, it resembles a True Eye of Cthulhu.
