For the vanilla page, see Deerclops.

The Eternity Mode Deerclops is a Pre-Hardmode boss which is a more powerful version of the Deerclops with more attacks and new behavior.

Behavior

Deerclops overall behaves similarly to its vanilla counterpart but with a greater focus on area denial, forcing the player to stay even closer to the boss. It will move at extreme speeds if the player moves too far away, despawn immediately upon player death, and passively inflicts Low Ground, actuating all platforms for the duration of the fight.

Phase 1

  • Deerclops no longer passively summons shadow hands.
  • Deerclops' ground smash attacks cover a much wider area; the directional ground smash splits into 3 giant ice spikes at its tip.
  • The large area smash spawns 3 extra large ice spikes on each side, one at a shallow angle pointing outwards, and two more at the top in a 'v' shape.
  • Deerclops always uses a combo of 2 directional attacks, followed by one random area attack.
  • Deerclops' movement speed increases gradually while not attacking, resetting whenever a non-enraged attack is performed.
  • Roaring always makes Deerclops go berserk.
  • Smash attacks have 50% less windup.
  • Below 66% health, Deerclops transitions to Phase 2.

Phase 2

  • Deerclops gains significantly increased movement speed in this Phase.
  • Deerclops sets the time to 12:00 AM every time it roars from this point on.
  • Immediately upon entering Phase 2, Deerclops will roar (inflicting Slow) set it to night and perform a grab attack, always followed by a ranged area attack.
  • Grab attack: Deerclops will rapidly teleport between opposite sides of the player several times (stopping after a few moments) whilst they are trapped within the grab, which must be mashed out of. After a short time, Deerclops will appear at the side that it stopped on, perform a random area attack, the grab attack can occur at any point in phase 2 onward. (Time spend teleporting decreased.)
  • Ranged area attack: Deerclop's eye is surrounded in a massive light blue aura, it performs a small ground smash (same as base game), followed by an ice rain attack (also identical to base game).
  • Both ground smash and area attacks are upgraded, the directional ground smash gains 3 extra spikes at the ends of each ice spike, whilst the large area smash gains 3 extra ice spikes at the end of every ice spike, pointing in the direction the secondary spikes lean in tight groups.
  • Below 33% health, Deerclops transitions to Phase 3.

Phase 3

  • Deerclops becomes permanently engulfed in shadow after this phase begins. (Invulnerability logic not affected.)
  • Deerclops moves twice as fast.
  • Ranged attack upgraded: Ice rain is replaced by an upwards-sweeping laser, the flash color changes to red. (Laser attack sweeps upwards much faster.)
  • Area smash and laser attack ice spikes linger for much longer. (Significantly longer)
  • Time spent teleporting after a Grab is decreased.
  • When roaring in phase 3, Deerclops will go berserk, aggressively pursuing the player for 10 seconds and slowing back down over time.

Notes

  • Deerclops can sometimes reverse direction during the laser and ice throw if you switch sides too soon.
  • Deerclops will occasionally inflict GrabbedGrabbed in addition to the normal Shadow Hands if you attempt to remain above it on any difficulty.
  • On Legendary Mode Deerclops retains its passive shadow hands.

Tips

  • Before preforming the laser and ice rain attacks, Deerclops' eye is surrounded in a large light blue aura, which is a tell.
  • You can run under Deerclops' legs to avoid basic attacks.
  • Going too far away from the boss makes it intangible and slow you, staying close is recommended, especially in masochist due to its massively increased speed.

Trivia

  • If the Eternity Mode Recolors option is turned on in the Mod Configurations menu, it resembles Klaus from Don't Starve Together.
  • Deerclops' Deathray attack is based on its Winter's Feast variant's own laser attack.
