Banished Baron

The Banished Baron is a Hardmode boss that can be summoned as soon as Hardmode begins. It is intended to be fought before the Mechanical bosses.

Summoning

Banished Baron can be summoned using the Mechanical Lure underwater.

Behaviour

When the fight begins, the player will be given the Baron's Burden debuff. This debuff forces the player to stay underwater by dealing 90 damage per second and forcing them downwards if they go out of water, but granting and infinite breath while underwater. This debuff will disappear when phase 2 starts.

  • After falling below 33% Health and finishing the current attack, the boss enters a phase transition and initiates Phase 2, with a set of new and improved attacks.

Expert Mode

  • Enters phase 2 at 66% health

Eternity Mode

  • Swims faster in phase 1.
  • Additional debuffs will be inflicted.

Masochist Mode

  • Goes through tiles in phase 1.
  • Ocassionally removes water in phase 1.
  • Not slowed down by water.
  • Whirlpool arena spawns closer.

Attacks

Attack Phase 1 Phase 2
Opening The boss will fly towards the Mechanical Lure and eat it. The player is thrown above water with two whirlpool walls forming an arena, the arena will get closer as health decreases.
Sign Swim The boss swims in a curved zigzag pattern, dropping 3 Mines as it travels.
Moves faster.
Moves even faster.

Stealth Dash The boss will disappear from its current position, it will reappear in a different spot and dash towards the player, if it collides with blocks while dashing it will take 500 damage and release shrapnel, a flash of light from its vizor will show where it has reappeared.
Indicator lasts for a shorter amount of time. Dash will leave behind accelerating rockets and 2 homing rockets in front of the ending.
Homing Rocket tracking is pseudo-predictive.

Nuke The boss will shoot out a nuke with a red aura which will home towards the player, after a following the player the nuke will cause an explosion. Nuke speed is increased, shoots out shrapnel. -
Rocket Storm Six tracking torpedoes will be shot towards the player. The boss will rotate around the player firing rockets which shoot towards the player.
Rockets track towards the player more.
Whirlpool The boss will go above water and summon a whirlpool below itself, the whirlpool will shoot out razorblades.
Whirlpool and Razorblades ignore tiles.
The whirlpool wall closest to the player will begin emitting Razorblades.
Razorblades alternate the sides they are being shot.
Surface Mines Dashes down diagonally firing a spread of mines that float towards the surface, can only be performed if the player is close to the boss. Shoots mines symmetrically behind itself. positions infront of the player firing 3 Mines above, then below. More Mines are fired.
Carpet Bomb - 6 Mines which will explode into shrapnel will be dropped across the arena.
7 Mines are shot out.
8 Mines are shot out.
Predictive Dash - The boss will perform a predictive dash telegraphed by a white line, while dashing accelerating rockets will be fired.
Laser Sweep - Moves to the middle of the arena then shoots Baron's Deathray out if his visor, spinning and sweeping the laser for roughly 1/3 rotation.
Replaced by Nuke Combo Attack, rotates faster.
Scrap Spin - The boss will spin around the arena spraying scrap.
Nuke Combo Attack - The boss will shoot out a nuke, preform the laser sweep, then follow up with the predictive dash. Nuke speed is increased, shoots out shrapnel.

Notes

In Eternity Mode, will drop a mechanical lure when spawned if he has not been previously defeated. In Legendary Mode heals to 50% life below 15% health and copies the ai of base game Duke Fishron for the rest of the fight.

Trivia

  • If Fargo's Music Mod is enabled, Will of the Waves by zentaque will play, with the two halves divided among the 2 phases.
    • If it is disabled, Duke Fishron will play during Phase 1, and Boss 2 will play during Phase 2.
  • There is an upgraded version of this boss called Champion of Will.
  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for Banished Baron: "Cast out from the hierarchy, it hid while it tried to repair itself. Imperfect work left its strength and speed hindered."
    • The bestiary entry is a reference to a quote from Mega Man X6.

History

  • 1.6.6:
    • Resprited boss and some projectiles
    • Changed some visuals
    • Now accelerates very quickly for dashes, to reflect how his propellers and engine should work
    • Dolphin flop dash now has an explosion sound to reflect the engine struggling/cutting
    • Polished and smoothened boss movement to be much less snappy and jarring
    • Reworked phase 1 floating mines attack
    • Fade dash can now bonk into terrain and damage the Baron
    • Dashes back after the predictive dash in Phase 2 in Eternity Mode
    • Whirlpool attacks repeat less often
    • Nuke now only explodes into shrapnel in Masochist Mode, but explosion radius increased
    • No longer fires second nuke during laser sweep in Masochist Mode
    • Whirlpools no longer inflict Oceanic Maul, now only contact damage and nukes
    • Underwater projectiles and the boss itself now use bubble trails rather than a fire trail
    • New death animation
    • Now drops 1 Goldfish
    • Weapon drops are now craftable with 2 of the Boss Bag
  • 1.6: Introduced.
